Establishment and development
Container Providers International was established in Copenhagen in 1978 by Mr and Mrs Henning Nielsen. At first they acted as an agent for a number of leasing companies in the container business. But their business developed rapidly, and they soon started purchasing containers for their own company with a view to expanding their activity to sales and leasing of their own containers.
Since then they have given birth to many CPI offices all over the world: In 1988, CPI started a branch in the USA, in 1989 they opened an office in China, in 1990, another one in Belgium, in 1996, one in the United Kingdom, in 1997, one in France, in 1998, one in South Africa and lastly in 1999, one in Australia and recently Dubai in Jan 2010.
Today CPI Group benefits from its international network and its eight worldwide offices. The Head Office is still in Copenhagen, and CPI remains a company owned exclusively by the Nielsen family.
